| Thallus thin, plane, continuous to rimose-areolate, yellowish grey to greenish or greenish grey, epruinose, sometimes glossy. Soredia absent. Prothallus whitish, often zonate. Apothecia immersed when immature, becoming sessile, 0.3–1.2 mm diam.; disc pale to dark red-brown, epruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thick, entire, ±verrucose to crenulate. Cortex hyaline, ±gelatinous, 15–25 µm thick laterally and basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, 10–15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals soluble in KOH. Epihymenium orange-brown, K–, c. 10–15 µm thick, without crystals (glabrata-type). Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 10.5–14.5 × 5.5–7.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ yellow; containing atranorin (major), zeorin (major), chloroatranorin (trace) and traces of unidentified terpenes. |  |
